A Sociology Professor Kevin Dougherty at Baylor University has created a unique approach to his exams by reframing them in a positive light. HIs new approach includes "changing the environment in which students are evaluated, relabeling quizzes and exams as “learning checks” and “learning celebrations.” However, it does not seem like everyone is a fan of this approach...

Some people see this approach as one that may end up coddling a generation that already has a reputation (accurate or not) of struggling with entitlement and expectations in the workplace. Yet, some of these criticism appears dismissive, surface level and fails to engage the deeper pedagogical approach Dr. Dougherty is employing the classroom. After reading the article, is there anything you can take away from this approach? Do you think this would work for students across discipline? Is this just adding to what some have labeled as entitlement in recent college graduates?
